Dream Life 2025

Want to start thinking like a Futurist? Then, try this Dream Life 2025 coaching exercise!

I developed this exercise for people who listen to the Leaders of Transformation podcast with Nicole Jansen. Strategic foresight is now a core leadership competency, and Nicole and I had a great chat about how all of us can develop a futurist mindset.

One of my favorite strategic foresight tools is using stories to creatively expand their ideal futures!

If you are going to think like a Futurist, then it is important to focus on your own future first! This exercise is designed to do just that-help you think about your ideal future. This same type of exercise can be done with teams, departments or even whole organizations. Give it a try and let me know what your dream future looks, feels and even smells like!

It is important to clarify and begin living like you have already achieved your ideal future if you are truly going to achieve it. There are multiple futures, and the outcome that actually occurs happens because of both your mindset and the methodologies you use to get there.

Freedom in Your 40’s: Is It Time for A Change?

My new favorite book is, “The Freedom Journal:  Accomplish Your #1 Goal in 100 Days,” by John Lee Dumas (aka JLD).  John Lee Dumas hosts the EO Fire business podcast.  I listen to EO Fire every week, and I really enjoy how JLD continuously points out the importance of focusing on specific goals and taking action.  He wrote the Freedom Journal to help entrepreneurs achieve their goals.  I had to get a Freedom Journal to experience the 100 day transformation for myself.

If you have been following my posts on AskDrConnie.com, you know that I prefer the word “Intention” instead of goal.  Here’s why:

Intentions influence our actions and behaviors. If intentions are established with awareness, truth, and meaning, they help us experience a life filled with passion and personal fulfillment. Lack of understanding around our true intentions (what many people call goals) often causes frustration and confusion, which is one reason people do not achieve their goals. Many goals are written; however, they are not established with honest intent. It’s time to get brutally honest about your true intentions so you can achieve authentic goals.

Intentions have the power to strengthen your “Inner Leader” and help you move forward in a meaningful way as long as they represent what you truly want to accomplish and experience. Honest intentions, based on personal fulfillment and purpose, can also keep you motivated and focused while measuring progress and celebrating success.

Life in our 40’s can be a fascinating time of change.  Oftentimes, it is important for women over the age of 40 to reassess their goals, dreams and true intentions.  A few questions I encourage women to ask themselves:

  1. How do you define success?
  2. How are you using your intuition to guide your decisions?  Has it kicked into overdrive because it is trying to lead you into a new direction?
  3. What do you want to experience?

Sometimes, it is time for a change.  The great thing is that you have the freedom to decide to make the changes and adjustments that best suit you.  You just need to make sure you are headed for the right change!

The Freedom Journal is my new favorite book.  It is a tool I can use to clarify my intentions and help keep my busy life focused.  I will keep you posted on my 100-day journey and a few other adventures (my trip to Wyoming, etc.) as well!

Go Wild with Your Freedom!

Coaching for Personal Innovation:  The Role of Intuition

Innovation has become essential to survival and success in the 21st Century. Globalization combined with the rapid rate of change and explosive population growth have created a need for entrepreneurial activity, both inside and outside of new venture creation, that leads to continuous innovation while considering social and environmental impacts. Entrepreneurs are needed to establish new ventures and to employ others while developing new products, services and solutions. Entrepreneurial individuals, who may or may not start a business, are needed because they are innovators who behave or act in a proactive manner and move organizations forward.
Many different structures, policies and tools are being used to strengthen innovation within organizations; however, innovative behavior ultimately relies on individuals. Research (Reimers-Hild, 2005) has shown that motivation through personal fulfillment influences characteristics associated with the entrepreneurial personality. The complexity of motivation, entrepreneurial behavior and personal innovation suggests there is a need to explore these areas in greater detail. This paper proposes 1) intuition is a key element related to personal fulfillment and transformation; 2) intuition has the potential to influence entrepreneurial behavior and personal innovation; and, 3) coaching is a key tool in the development of intuition and personal innovation.

Quote from The Intuitive Way

A quote from one of the books I am currently reading (and enjoying!):

You, along with other like-minded people, are awakening to your individual path, knowing without knowing, that something more is being required of you.  You are one of the people who was born to participate in this creatively explosive time of transformation.  Trust that. (p. ix)

My latest research paper!

Below is the introduction to my latest research paper, “Coaching for Personal Innovation:  The Role of Intuition.”  I am publishing this paper as the last requirement for the International Coach Federation’s Certified Professional Coach Program.  I am going to graduate in just a couple of months!  Yippee!!  Time to celebrate!

How do individuals become more innovative?  How can they be more entrepreneurial?
Research (Reimers-Hild, 2005) has shown that individuals who possess a greater sense of motivation through personal fulfillment, are more likely to achieve sustainable personal innovation and change, and a key element related to personal fulfillment is intuition.  The purpose of this paper is to present and explore the relationships between intuition, personal innovation and coaching.  Two specific questions will be explored, including 1) how does coaching influence intuition?  And, 2) what is the role of intuition in the process of personal change and innovation?
