The Science of Fun

When I asked about the key takeaways from a leadership workshop yesterday, one of the participants said, “we had fun!”  I heard the same thing after a coaching session last Friday.  This theme keeps coming up and it is an important one.  Why?

Fun is good! Fun brings people together, helps them feel better and even builds businesses and communities.

My husband told me he thinks we are in a “Fun Emergency” and I agreed.  It is pretty easy to put fun on the back burner so we can get everything else done.  Like many of you reading this, we have careers, kids, dogs, parents, etc.  Fun tends to come last when it should come first!

I have been interested in the science of fun for the last few years. So, I am going to make fun the new focus of this blog in 2014.

Continue to follow AskDrConnie for ways to incorporate fun into your life with a special focus on families, finances, faith and the future!

Add your thoughts and ideas to the conversation on fun!  What role does fun play in your life?  What do you do to add more fun to your world?  I would love to hear from all of you!

What Does a New Year Mean?

I am writing this post with only a few hours left in 2013. My daughter just asked, “What does New Year’s mean?”

For my family, New Year’s Eve is a time for fun, reflection and anticipation. We started the day by celebrating at the zoo, which was fun. Now, it is time to reflect on 2013 by showing gratitude about the opportunity to be together as a family while giving thanks for our many blessings. Then, we need to get excited about welcoming 2014!

The new year presents the perfect opportunity to teach kids about setting their own goals and intentions. As a parent, I love the challenge and opportunity of teachable moments related to helping my kids find meaning in their lives while taking risks to pursue their dreams.

I usually start by asking myself and my family a few coaching questions focused on helping all of us realize the great times we shared as we approach the end of yet another amazing year:

What do you have to celebrate? What goals did you reach? What adventures did you take? What are your favorite memories? What did you like doing?

As we count down the hours, I have to ask myself and everyone reading this:

What do you want your life to look like in 2014?

My husband and I already co-created a list of intentions for 2014. We need to refine them a bit and work with the kids to do the same. I will post a coaching tool focused on setting true intentions (and living your life in full color) on AskDrConnie.com and KimmelTV.org tomorrow.

Get Ready to Go Wild in 2014!

The Power of the Positive

As an entrepreneur, life can be a bit challenging. One question I have been asking myself as we near the end of 2009 and move into 2010 is, “how can I really grow my business this year?” I am determined to take my business from small potatoes to the big time. As part of my journey, I am going to continue to blog about resources I find helpful; however, I am also going to pump things up a bit. I am going to really focus, set some high goals that I will achieve and take more risks. Most of all, I am going to be extremely positive. I have been experimenting with the law of attraction (I have been a bit skeptical) but am finding that it really does work!!

If you want to grow your business by being more entrepreneurial and by benefiting from the Power of the Positive, join me in my quest to do the same!
